Outward appearance and social-cultural activity are important for preserving the tradition of having a monarchy in Sweden and for stressing its necessity. The aim of this article is to discuss how the image of the heir apparent to the Swedish throne, Victoria Bernadotte, in terms of both appearance and social-cultural activity, helps to maintain support for the monarchy, even though it has only a symbolic role.
Barbara Bieniek Prawa autorskie (c) 2022 Studia Scandinavica 2022-12-28 2022-12-28 6(26) 139 151 10.26881/ss.2022.26.09 Muzyczny dialog "Sarabandy" i "Jesiennej sonaty" Ingmara Bergmana https://czasopisma.bg.ug.edu.pl/index.php/SS/article/view/7809
The significant representation of Western classical music in Ingmar Bergman’s filmography is a very broad phenomenon. This article combines some findings of different researchers with Bohdan Pociej’s intermedial theory to compare two films which are distant from each other in time, but not in style – Saraband (2003) and Autumn Sonata (1978). The comparison between them is focused on their musical aspects and some non-phonic elements which refer to classical music. The aim of this analysis is not only to identify some similarities and differences between these two productions, but also to show that Bergman’s films can be compared in a strictly musical context.
Roman Kraiński Prawa autorskie (c) 2022 Studia Scandinavica 2022-12-28 2022-12-28 6(26) 152 163 10.26881/ss.2022.26.10 Graeco-Roman Metaphor of Human Fate as a Fabric Woven and Thread Spun by Supernatural Beings in Medieval Icelandic Contexts https://czasopisma.bg.ug.edu.pl/index.php/SS/article/view/7800
This article offers an analysis of the Old Icelandic use of the weaving and spinning of fate metaphor, which projects the patterns of the practices of weaving and spinning on the notion of fate. The study aims primarily at reviewing the Latin provenance of this metaphor in the Old Icelandic literature, and examining the probability of the transfer of this metaphor through the reception of ancient Roman literature in medieval Iceland.
Grzegorz Bartusik Prawa autorskie (c) 2022 Studia Scandinavica 2022-12-28 2022-12-28 6(26) 13 31 10.26881/ss.2022.26.05 Skandynawski „błędny rycerz”, czyli zestawienie Olafa Tryggvasona Odda Snorrasona z Percewalem Chrétiena de Troyesa https://czasopisma.bg.ug.edu.pl/index.php/SS/article/view/7798
In courtly literature, the subject of the Errant Knight appears frequently, such as Eretz, Lancelot, and Perceval. In the Icelandic sagas, we can also meet such figures as. The purpose of this article is to show that the Olaf Tryggvason described by Odder Snorrrson was the Errant Knight as well. The author wants to show it by comparing Olaf Tryggvason with Perceval through their lives and their correlations. The author wants to show it by comparing Olaf Tryggvason and Perceval’s lives. These characters are correlated with each other. This is because Oddr and Chrétien de Troyes have built the plot of their works based on religion and love plots. They wanted to show a character who strives for the ideal through mistakes and learning.
Martina Mandera-Rzepczyńska Prawa autorskie (c) 2022 Studia Scandinavica 2022-12-28 2022-12-28 6(26) 32 44 10.26881/ss.2022.26.02 Sailing from Illness to Health: Spaces in Gaute Heivoll’s "Kongens hjerte" https://czasopisma.bg.ug.edu.pl/index.php/SS/article/view/7802
This article reflects on the issue of spatiality in Gaute Heivoll’s novel Kongens hjerte [The King’s Heart] from 2011, and analyzes how different descriptions of space interplay with illness metaphors in the text, contributing to a literary imaging of illness as “a road to health.” Kongens hjerte is a historical novel set in the second half of the eighteenth century, telling the story of a father and his ill daughter traveling from Norway to Copenhagen in order to seek treatment. The girl suffers from radesyke, a mysterious and lethal disease whose etiology remains unclear up to this day. After a theoretical introduction and outlining the context, the paper suggests possible lines of analysis of the spatiality aspects in the novel and moves on to a detailed reflection upon two categories: the presence/absence of the father and daughter in the same space, and the horizontal/ vertical orientation of the protagonists’ bodies. The conclusion of the study is that constructions of space and spatiality are a coherent and immanent component of the illness images in Heivoll’s novel, enabling a wide range of reading alternatives and supplying additional contexts for possible interpretations of the text.
Karolina Drozdowska Prawa autorskie (c) 2022 Studia Scandinavica 2022-12-28 2022-12-28 6(26) 45 60 10.26881/ss.2022.26.01 Ting, minne og identitet hos Inghill Johansen https://czasopisma.bg.ug.edu.pl/index.php/SS/article/view/7803
Things play a crucial role in Johansen’s short prose. Norway is considered to be a leading country in terms of gender equality, while Poland does not traditionally carry such connotations. Therefore, it is presumed that those slight cultural differences have an impact on the content of the books under discussion. The study considers whether included texts teach about feminism and gender equality. Secondly, professional occupations of male and female characters are examined in order to assess the extent of gender stereotyping. The last part is focused on examples of sexism itself. The analysis leads to a conclusion that gender discrimination is in fact more prevalent in the Polish textbooks than in the Norwegian ones.
Anna Olszewska Prawa autorskie (c) 2022 Studia Scandinavica 2022-12-28 2022-12-28 6(26) 74 90 10.26881/ss.2022.26.03 Słowem wstępu https://czasopisma.bg.ug.edu.pl/index.php/SS/article/view/7796 Redakcja Prawa autorskie (c) 2023 2022-12-28 2022-12-28 6(26) 7 10 Relacja z konferencji Nordic Challenges „Nordic Neighbourhoods: Affinity and Distinction in the Baltic Sea Region and Beyond” https://czasopisma.bg.ug.edu.pl/index.php/SS/article/view/7816 Karolina Drozdowska Marta Grzechnik Kazimierz Musiał Prawa autorskie (c) 2022 Studia Scandinavica 2022-12-28 2022-12-28 6(26) 191 193 Facing Sweden: The Experience of Sweden after the Forced Migration from Poland During the Antisemitic Campaign, 1967–1972 https://czasopisma.bg.ug.edu.pl/index.php/SS/article/view/7805
This article presents how the historical experience of Sweden is depicted in six biographies about the lives of Polish-Jewish refugees who migrated to Sweden from Poland in 1967–1972 due to the antisemitic campaign. It is an early output of the dissertation project Vi, de fördrivna [We, the Expelled], for which the historical experiences of this migrant group are being collected and analyzed. The depiction of Sweden in the biographies is viewed from the perspective of historical orientation. Generally, the biographies give a positive picture of Sweden. The Sweden illustrated is contrasted with a repressive depiction of Poland during the antisemitic campaign. Sweden at the time of arrival is also contrasted with Sweden in later years, which might be described as Sweden in decline.
Martin Englund Prawa autorskie (c) 2022 Studia Scandinavica 2022-12-28 2022-12-28 6(26) 93 106 10.26881/ss.2022.26.06 Autonomia a uwarunkowania społeczno-gospodarcze Wysp Owczych, Grenlandii i Wysp Alandzkich https://czasopisma.bg.ug.edu.pl/index.php/SS/article/view/7806
The aim of this article is to analyse the territorial autonomy and socio-economic conditions of the Faroe Islands, Greenland and the Aland Islands. Advertisements often refer to symbols and myths, but also to stereotypes, i.e. socially established, “rigid” views, ideas about reality consisting of someone else’s opinions, which are deeply rooted in human consciousness. Using such images – both native and foreign – for commercial purposes, advertisements can distort them to affect the recipient. The aim of this article is to identify and analyse selected Scandinavian commercial advertisements considered controversial in terms of confronting the stereotypical perception of Scandinavia by the Polish and Scandinavian media recipient with the image of Scandinavia contained in the message. The study also makes an attempt to evaluate this type of communication.
Anna Lusińska Prawa autorskie (c) 2022 Studia Scandinavica 2022-12-28 2022-12-28 6(26) 125 136 10.26881/ss.2022.26.08 Raluca-Daniela Răduț, The Poetry of Jan Erik Vold and the Norwegian Lyric Modernism in the 1960s, Casa Cărții de Știință, Cluj-Napoca, 2018, 352 pp. https://czasopisma.bg.ug.edu.pl/index.php/SS/article/view/8577 Georgiana Bozîntan Prawa autorskie (c) 2023 2022-12-28 2022-12-28 6(26) 167 170 PhD Studies in Norwegian Literature, eds.
