In this article, I propose to analyse the theme of bodily metamorphosis based on the notion of ‘imbalance’, putting into perspective Artaud's rejection of the sexualised body and what appears to be anthropologist Nastassja Martin's rejection of the western body. The aim is to move from catastrophe to metamorphosis and regeneration of the body and the self. The key event, the kairos, for both authors, is situated in a so-called primitive culture steeped in animism: the encounter with the Tarahumaras and the initiation into peyote for Artaud, and the encounter with a bear during the expedition to the Evenks in Kamchatka for Martin. In both cases, it is an encounter between reality and myth. This accident turns out to be a refusal: there is therefore a temporality of the refusal of the established body, and this is what writing allows, in the reconstruction, a posteriori, of the event, in order to write a new ontology of our modernity.
