About the Journal

Aim and thematic scope of the journal

“Book Now” is an electronic journal of the Institute of Polish Language and Literature that publishes articles from areas related to literature (theory, history and literary criticism) as well as widely understood philosophy, anthropology, social sciences and arts. We hope to gain our individuality successively by editors and authors’ active reactions to contemporary intellectual and social issues, and their attempts to make various interdisciplinary connections and confrontations. We trust that because of the fact that we are located in Gdańsk, our environment will have a chance to gain energy from the memory of Solidarity (especially the first one, connected with August 1980). The main goal of the editorial staff is, of course, publishing a high-level journal.

In terms of good practice and rules of publishing ethic the editorial staff complies with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (https://publicationethics.org/resources/code-conduct). COPE’s flowcharts in Polish: http://www.ebib.pl/pliki/25/full_set_of_polish_flowcharts.pdf.

Reviewers, editors and authors are obliged to read these guidelines carefully, and to comply to them:

  1. The article sent by the author was not published before, and is not considered to be published in any other journal (or an explanation was presented to the editorial staff/in the first footnote).
  2. In the first footnote, there should be also information about the source of funding (e.g. the title and number of a grant) and information about the conference (title, date, place), if the article is a post-conference publication.
  3. The journal uses “ghostwriting” and “guest authorship” barriers.
  4. Two independent reviewers are chosen to evaluate each publication. Authors and reviewers do not know each others’ identities – find out more: https://czasopisma.bg.ug.edu.pl/index.php/JednakKsiazki/recenzja.
  5. The journal does not reveal names of the reviewers in each issue. The list of reviewers who co-operated with us in a certain year is published in the first issue of the journal (in March) next year.
  6. The science editor of a certain issue is obliged to justify his/her decision concerning rejection of an article by his/her own argument, or a fragment of the article’s review.
  7. The journal does not charge for publications.
  8. The journal has a policy to deposit published version of their papers in other repositories: e.g. Academia
