Abstrakt

The text refers to a special kind of places described in the prose of Polish writers Daniel Odija, Filip Onichimowski and Michał Olszewski – the provincial town defined as an area of boredom, stagnation and monotony which destroy the personality of the characters. In a provincial town (defined in opposition to a big city) there live passive people with no positive outlook for the future – drunks, criminals, thieves (Ulica, Do Amsterdamu, Zalani) or artists and journalists (Kronika umarłych). Each of them wants to escape from this place and live in a big city. They strongly believe that in a big city their life will change for the better, but in fact escape from the province does not solve their problems.
