The Lieux de Mémoire in Kościerzyna

Abstract

The article analyses the concept of lieux de mémoire by Pierre Nora in Kościerzyna according to the recollection literature of Bronisława Niedzielska, Anna Ossowska-Pałasz and Jerzy Knyba as well as the image of the town in the old photographies and postcards. The aim of the text is to highlight the issue of symbolic power, the theory of Pierre Bourdieu, as Kościerzyna and its citizens suffered from the political transformations several times in the 20th century.
