Abstract

The following thesis introduce the term ‘local gallery’, which should be translated as a gallery representing artistic group of a certain milieu. active from the sixties to the eighties of 20th century. The most characteristic example is the Gallery of Modern Pomeranian Painting in Grudziadz, founded in 1961. In the content of the article there are listed a few other galleries, collecting the works of the artists active in a certain area. Moreover, the article typifies a specific list of determinants, which are representative for all the mentioned galleries.

The aim of this study is to present the Grudziadz gallery as an exemplary collection for all the local galleries and to start the discussion about the necessity of introducing new definition in the typology of modern art.
