Abstrakt

The aim of this work is to show the history of Jewish community living in Alexandria during Ptolemaic period. At the beginning the article describes when Alexandria was founded and how many inhabitants were living there. Secondly, it shows when and why the Israelites came to Egypt and what the relations between them and the pharaohs were. Subsequently, the article describes the main problem of the history and position of Jewish community in this polis. Moreover, there is information concerning the town district the Jewish inhabitants lived in and what their relations with Greeks and Egyptians were like. At the end of the article there is a description of what happened with the Jews when Egypt became a province of the Roman Empire.
