Abstract

The following article examines two inseparable but, in the same time, different visions of judgement: one implicit in Hebrew Bible and one contained in the Qumran scrolls. Firstly, it conducts an analysis of various aspects of the biblical idea of judgement, e.g. terminology, the role of the covenant between the Israelites and God, and the picture of God as a judge. After that, the attention shifts to the Qumran community and to its views on the idea of judgement (shown in aspects similar to the previous ones). The last part of the study deals with the comparison of the two earlier reconstructed images in order to find their similarities and differences.
