Social work with the elderly is becoming increasingly important for society because of global aging of the population. One of the main requirement of the effective social work with the elderly is the training of qualified specialists with positive attitudes towards working with the elderly. Such attitudes are formed during the studying in University largely. The article describes the results of the study of the cognitive component of attitudes of students of the direction „Social work” from Russia (Omsk) and Poland (Lublin and Kielce) towards work with the elderly. It is the part of the bigger study of attitudes towards working with older people, conducted under the direction of prof. dr. Anna Kanios within the framework of the L. Kirkland program.
