Abstrakt

Fan tourism is a phenomenon encompassing a variety of practices and behaviors focused on searching and collecting information by fans associated with their object of interest. The aim of this article is to examine the distinctive characteristics of this evolving phenomenon through the example of the global fandom of the South Korean music group BTS, known as ARMY. The article focuses on the group’s global concert tours. Its methodology involves a qualitative analysis of online fan-created content, including travel guides, vlogs, blog posts, etc. Analysis shows diverse forms of fan tourism, including concert-based fan tourism, which may be considered “global” because of the band’s international touring presence, and “local” fan tourism, which involves visiting locations associated with the group. Fan tourism, thus, emerges as a hybrid form of tourism.
