Abstrakt

The relatively limited number of scarabs in Prepalatial Crete caused them to be overlooked in studies of political organization on the Island. Modern publications reveal however, that they may be relevant in not only elite-forming factors but also in establishing religion of the palace elites during the Protopalatial and Neopalatial phases. The fact that they are found in burial places during Prepalatial phase and the forthcoming usage of symbols with similar, dual meaning during palatial times is the best exemplification of their importance.
