Bikesharing systems in sharing economy context

Abstract

The share of individual transport in cities increases due to social, enviromental and economic processes. This leads to increased congestion, enviromental degradation and a decrease of citizen’s safety. A dynamic development of the sharing economy has been happening for a few years. All around the world alternative transport modes have become and object of interest while being promoted as innovative ways of moving across the cities. The article presents bikesharing systems in the context of the sharing economy concept as one of these innovative transport solutions. This is especially important as the bikesharing systems grow in importance and evolve due to technological advances and changes in urban mobility behaviour.
