Impact of the global game of powers on Poland

Abstract

Since 2018, the United States has taken a fight for a primacy in the international system with a pretender to hegemony - China. Both powers have different strategic goals to establish an international order and a security system corresponding to their interests. The Americans as a sea power are weakening at the moment when a truly symmetrical challenge is emerging which is China with supplementary potential of the Russian Federation. Russia, economically and demographically, can’t be equal to China or the United States. However, the military potential, geographical location, influence zones and energy resources mean that Russia still has a significant influence on the international arena. Being a heartland state, it connects both sides of Eurasia. Western Europe has complementary interests with Russia, which is a huge challenge for Republic of Poland. The location and geography of the territory of Poland makes us a significant player in the strategies of each superpower. With a demographic dividend Poland can become a geoeconomic pivot. Being in the sphere of influence of the United States, Poland will play primarily the role of a military player affecting Russia. In China's initiatives Poland is perceived as an important logistics and transport hub for trade between Europe and China.
