Filozof, krytyk i historyk sztuki, kurator wystaw. Wykłada w École des hautes études en sciences sociales w Paryżu. Autor wielu uznanych książek, m.in. tłumaczonych na język polski: Obrazy mimo wszystko (2008), Strategie obrazów – Oko historii 1 (2011), Przed obrazem (2011), Kora (2013) i Atlas albo radosna wiedza podszyta niepokojem (2020).
