This paper is concerned with the basis and principles of library ethics perceived as standards of library staff behaviour and their ethical attitudes. This article results in not only a study of German libraries standards but also compares these standards to Estonian and Polish ones. The author formulates some conclusions with regards to this content and the management of the proces of developing ethic codes for both the professions of the librarian and the information researcher. This paper gives a clear picture of the current situation and highlights the necessity of analysing the needs and making appropriate changes.
