The article examines the role of awards at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia in shaping the reception of films about artists and art. It argues that festival distinctions function as instruments of cultural policy, transforming symbolic capital into audience engagement and market value. Through a historical analysis of selected awarded films, the study demonstrates that, although often marginal, themes of art and creation remain consistently present and responsive to socio-political change. Awards enhance visibility, legitimise artistic narratives, stimulate both public interest and industry investment, and remain a significant device within evolving cultural frameworks.
