Abstrakt

The article is a contribution to the history of Bruno Schulz’s life and work. It cites and comments on a letter sent to Emil Zegadłowicz by a Borysław lawyer, Józef Tell, who had occasional social and artistic relations with Schulz. Tell, according to the content of the letter in question, was present at Zegadłowicz’s public lecture in Borysław in February 1939, and then at a party organized on that occasion by Bruno Schulz in Drohobych. The sender informs Zegadłowicz, about the work on his new novel, Na marginesie życia (On the Margin of Life), which Schulz wrote about in a letter to the author. A copy of this letter, which Tell attached to a letter sent to Zegadłowicz, has not survived. The commentary explains all known circumstances of the document’s origin and formulates hypotheses about the fate of the lost letter. The document in question, discovered by the article’s author during a library search of Emil Zegadłowicz’s archive at the University Library in Poznań, has never been published.
