Mariusz Kubielas presents the underlying principles of his photographic pictures based on the motifs from Bruno Schulz’s fiction and graphic works. The inspiration by the artist from Drogobych is indeed challenging since it requires a combination of opposite approaches to the world: ludic and melancholic, collective and individualistic. Although Kubielas’s pictures have been misinterpreted by the media and received by some spectators as scandalizing, his cooperation with curators, the audience, the sitters, and other Schulz buffs allowed him to realize a project which connects art and existence by visualizing Schulz’s fiction, saving unused things and places from oblivion, and recognizing oneself as the writer’s disciple.
