Abstract

In the article Image of the Other in Students’ Language, I analyze words used for naming representatives of different religions, ethnic minorities and nations living in Poland. The material was collected on basis of about 100 questionnaires gathered on the Faculty of Languages of the University of Gdańsk during classes with first and second year students of Polish and Roman studies. I also verify whether the language of students presents a stereotypical image of people of other religions and nations, and how diverse this language is – whether the speakers use only stylistically neutral or expressive words; neologisms, neosemantisms, language metaphors, words borrowed from other languages, mass culture etc. In this article I also analyze the phenomenon of dislike and aggression towards the Other.
