Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

  1. The journal publishes academic articles and original works / texts that have not been previously published, nor submitted to another Polish journal, publishing house or any joint publication.
  2. Firstly, the submitted article / text is evaluated by the Editorial Team and the decision is made whether to refer it for further work, for external review or for refusal.
  3. The basic rules of publication of academic articles are as follows:
  • Subsequent to the decision of referring the article for further work, it is submitted for review to two anonymous external reviewers (“Ethnography…” operates a double-blind peer review policy).
  • The volume of the submitted article should not exceed 40,000 characters with spaces and footnotes (about 20 pages).
  • The submitted article should have a bibliography and footnotes prepared in accordance with APA style.
  • The author of the submitted article should enclose a short summary in English and Polish (approximately 100-200 words). The texts of both summaries should be equivalent in content. The abstract should be accompanied by a headline stating name and surname of the author and the title of the article. Under the abstract, there should be a set of keywords (up to 6 keywords), separately in Polish and in English.
  • It is important to attach a short note to the article about the author, including name, surname, specialty and academic degree, affiliation (name of the institution or organization) and short list/description of research interests, as well as your contact information (correspondence address, e-mail address)
  1. Publications in “Ethnography…” are unpaid.
  2. The Editorial Team does not send back any materials that have not been accepted for printing.
  3. The author signs a publication agreement with the Publisher concerning the publication of their work. The agreement grants the University of Gdańsk Press a royalty-free license to the work, with the right to grant sublicenses under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (CC BY-SA 4.0). A sample agreement can be found here: AGREEMENT

  4. The journal does not charge any fees to authors or readers (no APCs or other charges).

  5. Authors may deposit any version of the article in any repository: the submitted version, the accepted version (Author Accepted Manuscript), and the published version (Version of Record). At the same time, we recommend depositing only the published version of the article, in the form made available on the journal’s website (Version of Record).

  6. Long-term archiving is ensured through weekly backups performed using a dedicated script developed by the IT Centre of the University of Gdańsk.
  7. According to the recommendations of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, in order to counteract any cases of ghostwriting and guest authorship, authors of the texts with more than one author are required to provide information on the contribution of every individual author in the creation of the article. In case of scientific misconduct stating the non-disclosure of other people's contribution to the publication (ghostwriting) or giving as co-author a person whose contribution to the publication is negligible or did not take place at all (guest authorship), the Editors reserve the right to notify the scientific community about this fact.
  8. To prevent plagiarism, the University of Gdańsk Press uses the Crossref Similarity Check anti-plagiarism system.
