The Baltic Sea Region has a long tradition in successful international cooperation and the European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region is a model example of a modern regional governance. The EUSBSR has not got its own finances thus this governance means overall coordination of the efforts undertaken in the region. Effective cooperation of all actors from all levels focuses on common challenges and contributes to sustainable development of the region increasing its competiteveness, growth, wealth and prosperity and guarantees the best use of available sources. The EUSBSR being a first macro-regional strategy is an useful instrument which facilities and ensures this proccess of regional governance from the EU perspective. The EUSBSR is considered to have created a common framework for action and encouragement for closer and more comprehensive cooperation. The current Strategy offers the opportunity to move from words to action and to deliver real benefits. Following its success the Strategy has also been adopted to three other European regions.
