Assessment of the socio‐economic development of the countries admitted in 2004 to the European Union with the use of multi‐dimensional comparative analysis

Abstract

The purpose of the article was to examine and rank positions in the development of countries admitted to the European Union in 2004, using elements of the linear ordering method. To achieve the goal, in the first point the essence of socio‐economic development was discussed. Examples of factors affecting progress have also been identified. The next step in the article was to discuss in depth the methodology associated with the adopted goal of the work. Attention was drawn to the fact that the linear ordering method with a pattern approach was already presented in 1968 as a measure of economic development. After discussing the research method, an analysis was made. For the assessment, data from various sources were used. Data for 2004 and 2018 were used. In the case of the second analysis, the expenditure on research and development is an exception ‐ in their case, due to availability, data for 2017 was used. The analysis is summarized, and the final conclusions of the study are presented.
