Editorial ethics
The board of editors of the academic journal „Studia Germanica Gedanensia” acts according to recommendations of the Committee on Publication on Ethics/ COPE
Duties of authors:
Originality and plagiarism: Authors should submit only original works which have not been published before. As exceptions may be treated texts of a high scientific value translated into German and they should contain information about the original version. Any kind of plagiarism is not acceptable and it leads to exclusion from the publication process. Submitting the manuscript, the author makes a statement that the submitted material is his or her own work and that cited pieces of other authors are clearly and properly acknowledged. Furthermore, he or she declares that drawings and photos which are not their own work are properly and clearly acknowledged and that he or she has the authors'/publishers' agreement to use these works in their publication.
Errors in published works: Prior to publication of the article in the printed version, the author is obliged to make all the corrections suggested by the reviewer and to consider all the remarks and corrections suggested by the editor. After the editing process in the publishing house the author has still a possibility to make corrections and when they discover significant errors in their own published works, they have an obligation to promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate at correction or withdrawal of the article.
Duties of editors:
Confidentiality and transparency of the editorial process: The editorial board is obliged to keep the whole reviewing procedure confidential and to process the submitted texts thoroughly. The editorial board sees to the transparency of the whole editorial process using the Open Journal Systems software. They also carry out thorough anti-plagiarism control and make sure all the ethical standards are observed during editing process. They also prepare description of reviewing procedure, the reviewing form and select the proper outside reviewers possessing specialist knowledge and skills certified by their previous achievement.
Publication decisions: The academic editor makes an initial review of the text and qualifies it for outside assessment. The text which does not satisfy the requirements, contains significant errors or bibliographical shortcomings, after consulting the editorial board, is sent back to the author with the appropriate justification. The editor in consultation with the editorial board selects two reviewers, one of whom has a foreign affiliation. The editor strives to prevent a conflict of interest between the author and the reviewers. The articles are reviewed confidentially and anonymously (double-blind review process). The procedure of reviewing description, review forms and the current list of potential reviewers can be found on the Journal website.
Duties of reviewers:
Confidentiality and standards of objectivity: Reviewers should asses manuscripts thoroughly and objectively, maintaining confidentiality. They are obliged to notify the editorial board if they believe there is a conflict of interests concerning especially direct personal relations (family relationships, legal relations, conflicts), relations of professional subordination, direct scientific cooperation within the last two years prior to the reviewing process.
Participation in editorial decisions: Reviewers should identify significant publications not mentioned by the author and inform the editorial board about noticeable similarities or overlaps in the manuscript and other publications. The review should have a written form and should end with a unanimous conclusion on publishing the article or its rejection. Should the reviewer have critical remarks concerning the manuscript, they are to suggest necessary corrections and additions.
