The aim of the study is to characterize the municipal waste management system in Poland. The goal is closely related to the research problem, which takes the form of a question: how should the municipal waste management system be shaped, thanks to which certain levels of recycling and preparation for reuse of specific fractions of municipal waste and reduction of the mass of biodegradable municipal waste will be achieved. Achieving the research goal and solving the scientific problem was used to put forward a research hypothesis indicating that the attempts made to seal the municipal waste management system are more and more sufficient to create an optimal model of municipal waste management. As part of the research process, three methods of law research were used. Due to the research aspiration, the dogmatic and legal method, which is basic for legal works, dominates. It will also be reasonable to use the method of axiological study of the law, which allows to determine the values underlying the functioning of the waste law. The last method will concern the sociological study of law, primarily the analysis of legal documents (court and administrative materials) and statistical documents (yearbooks, reports).
