Głównym celem niniejszego artykułu jest zaprezentowanie różnych wariantów uzasadnienia praw człowieka. Jako punkt wyjścia swoich rozważań autor przyjął Powszechną Deklarację Praw Człowieka, przedstawiając jednocześnie podstawowe założenia w sporze uniwersalizmu z relatywizmem. W opracowaniu omówiono także najważniejsze etapy powstawania PDPCz oraz podstawowe spory filozoficzne towarzyszące jej uchwalaniu.
