This article discusses the contextual concept of the urban community that defines itself to the environment (nation-state, other cultures, other territories and inhabitants of the city). The point of reference is Robert Park’s text, defining the community as a moral and spatial pattern. Looking for answers to questions: to whom, where and under what circumstances these patterns are defined, author points to the problem of temporality. As Poland in some areas undergoes accelerated re-centralization, the city may appear as an “unmatched element” in the hierarchy of political bodies. Subjectivity and autonomy of the urban community is primarily the subject of political changes the subjectivity and autonomy of the urban community.
