Musical distinction of the Skalne Podhale region

Abstract

Using the Pierre Bourdieu’s category of distinction I strive to show in what way, in the modern Podhale region, music works as a distinctive element. In my opinion music is an important element of the symbolic capital, which is used by the representatives of the local elite in order to establish and sustain local social hierarchies.
