Work and leisure time in the information society

Abstract

Society is constantly being transformed and developed. The development of techniques caused, that organized space in the traditional sense (which was the same as the social organization of the existing hierarchical structure), was replaced by a cybernetic, based on the information network. The canvas of this article is the issue concerning the problem of working in conjunction with the free time. The study attempted to answer the question: how have changed the relationship between working time and time off along with the transition from industrial society to the society based on the development of modern information technologies? The aim of the article is to show how IT in information society affect human life: make changes in the relationship between working time and leisure time; to emphasise, that job has own value, because it is not available to all, as well as not every kind of work is valuable; the fight for the free time ends; changes in the economy under the influence of IT leads to the fact that the problem is not to provide to the general public free time, as was the case in the industrial society, but work; honor becomes having a creative job; working time and free time of people, who are working creatively permeates more and more; free time of the proletariat becomes a big social problem. The leading idea of the article is that the exchange of information and its processing (using the modern information technologies) becomes in the information society the main motivation of all human activity. This activity is manifested in the human work, process of consumption, which its importance is growing; seeing by bluring the boundaries between work and production, as well as in education and social communication on the network. To develop the article it used analytical synthetic method based on the selected literature and selected statistics.
