The importance of communication and mobile technologies in work-life borders management practices among working full-time and self-employed people

Abstract

The article aims to examine the role and significance of communication and mobile technologies in work-life boundary management practices taking into account the mode of employment of the researched persons. The contextualist perspective of presented problems, enriched with assumptions of boundary and border theory, allows us to indicate the role of technologies in the process of creating and negotiating border areas at the level of everyday experience of the respondents. Drawing on qualitative research, we want to focus on the role of new everyday technologies in the context of opening, running and closing the day, such as: logging in, receiving e-mails or sending/receiving messages. In our text we are discussing different strategies of incorporating technology into the everyday work-life relations.
