Abstract

The article presents the results of a content qualitative analysis of existing data, blogs of autism self-advocates activists in Poland. The Qda Miner 6.0 program was used in the research process. The aim of the study is both to investigate the ways in which autism activists experience health and to check how they understand the health of the entire population of people on the autistic spectrum. It was hypothesized that self-advisers’ support for one of the two ways of defining autism – as a disorder or as an alternative developmental model – will be reflected in, the promotion of the concept of health as no deficit or as physical, mental or social well-being, respectively. The coexistence of the two distinguished perspectives for defining autism was interpreted in relation to the processes of medicalization and demedicalization.
