With reference to the considerable achievements of the Second Polish Republic (1918–1939) as a whole and to the construction of the Gdynia port as Poland’s gateway to the world, particular attention was given to the strategic Gdynia–Bydgoszcz water channel project (1937), as the northern part of the Vistula waterway for the coal export from the Silesian mines. Unfortunately, due to the growing threat of war surrounding Poland in the late 1930s, its construction had to be abandoned.
