This article presents a qualitative content analysis of two legal acts and two ethical codes regulating journalistic activity. Its aim is to determine the extent of convergence between the journalistic duties listed in these documents and the principle of sustainable development as formulated in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland (understood here as the tension between the ecological, social and economic spheres). The analysed regulations do not contain provisions that contradict the principle of sustainable development. None of the documents addresses ecological issues. The social duties of journalists and the economic imperative (understood as the pursuit of financial gain) are generally not juxtaposed with each other (with one exception); instead, they are related to other traditional concepts such as accuracy, reliability or the public good. This leads to the conclusion that a broader professional debate is needed on revising the analysed documents with respect to journalistic duties in accordance with the principle of sustainable development.
