Abstract

The aim of this article is to reconstruct the significance of multilingualism and multiculturalism for the formation of a transcultural identity, using the example of Christabel Bielenberg’s autobiographical work. The author’s subjective experiences are analysed with regard to her changing identity and national-cultural affiliation, including the reasons for and consequences of the changes. The author of the article concludes that transculturality and multilingualism enable Christabel Bielenberg to seamlessly cross national-cultural boundaries and adapt her identity to her needs and situational context.
