Abstract

The intention of this article is to reflect on the sense of alienation of Muslim women in Western societies, especially in Germany. The analysis is based on the book The foreign bride from the German-speaking author of Turkish origin Necla Kelek, who reported experiences of women in a position which she described as a double alienation. These women usually know only their native language, and their personal and social situation makes contacts with the new local background difficult, if not impossible. To this situation they often adjust by confining themselves to the world of faith and religion.
