Abstrakt

The issue of identity among of the people of Japan is very complex. On the one hand, there is the prevalent and promoted myth of their homogeneous origin and the Japanese culture, while on the other – along with the development of social and cultural sciences – there is a growing awareness of the country’s ethno-cultural diversity. The Japanese are now increasingly facing the question of ethnic stereotypes and the issue of cultural competences of people living in the Japanese Archipelago. This article presents an analysis of identity-building among of the Japanese and two minority groups: ethnic Koreans (zainichi) and children born to mixed couples (hāfu).
