Abstract

Human actions are based on an individual assessment of a spatial and social situation, and largely depend on different perceptions of the external world and the specific view of social group place in the world. Every entity creates its own “world map”, which is a set of visions concerning its place and role in the world. Every social or regional group develops some ideas about surrounding world and its place in it. This geopolitical visions are shaped and influenced by various factors, such as historical traditions, education, literature, art, mass media, science that transmit and spread stereotypes and notions of national history and the space inhabited by given community. One of the most influential and sustainable “geopolitical vision” in Polish cultural and political tradition is the concept of Intermarium. This idea, supported by the historical and geographical arguments had a very strong influence on perceptions of Polish political elite and has become one of the most widely discussed Polish geopolitical visions.
