The necessity of research on the ageing of people with long-term acquired disability
Keywords:
long-term disability, aging, health, secondary health conditionsAbstract
Nowadays, the growing population of ageing people with long-term disabilities is a challenge for researchers and practitioners, as it constitutes a group with specific characteristics and needs resulting from the peculiarities of both phenomena. However, it is not a simple sum of their characteristics, but a complex and ambiguous conglomerate with unclear boundaries and conditions. Hence, the article focuses on discussing the characteristics of ageing in people with long-term acquired disabilities from the perspective of physical and psychosocial functioning. This perspective is the starting point for justifying the need for research on the phenomenon of ageing of people with long-term acquired disabilities.
