Helga M. Novak and Günter Grass. A friendship in letters

Abstract

The correspondence between Helga M. Novak and Günter Grass, that’s found in the German Literature Archive Marbach, became an opportunity to reconstruct their contacts, also on the basis of other documents. A focal point is the autumn of 2004 when Grass supported Novak’s efforts to gain a residence permit in Germany. Traces of the friendly relationship were also reflected in the work of Grass and Helga M. Novak. Finally, Polish reception of Novak is briefly presented in digression.
