The article shows how important the knowledge of ancient times was even for connoisseurs of natural history. Without such knowledge the young Georg Forster would probably not have obtained a professorship in Kassel. The author of the article also tries to present that it was possible to use the knowledge of Antiquity to question Christianity and the dispute on “The Gods of Greece” of Schiller is a proof of it. Foster was also among those who took part in that dispute.
