Theatre and migration – The „Theatre of Migrants“ by Olek Witt from an intercultural perspective
Keywords:
theatre, migration, interculturalism, performativityAbstract
This article deals with the absence of the subject of migration as well as of people with migrant background in contemporary German institutional theater. This does not apply, however, to the off-scene where people with migrant background are active. The “Theater of Migrants” directed by Olek Witt is exemplary in this respect; its premises and activities are presented in the second part of the article. Theoretical considerations and the analysis of two representations are based on issues such as community dance, performativity, collective work, social aesthetics or the program of interculture by Mark Terkessidis.
