Abstrakt

The article is a part of a book edited by Nadia Seremetakis, Perception and Memory as Material Culture in Modernity. The author considers connections between senses, culture, memory and identity. Referring to the example of a particular sensory experience from her Greek homeland, she shows what happens when perception and memory are globalized through transnational regulations and standards, as well as the homogenization of material culture.

profesor antropologii kulturowej. Prowadziła wielolet- nie badania terenowe w Grecji oraz badania porównawcze w różnych częściach świata. Jest autorką książek i artykułów w języku angielskim i greckim, w tym także poezji. Obecnie pracuje na Uniwersytecie Peloponeskim i dzieli swoje życie między USA i Europę. Zainteresowania: antropologia zmysłów, historia, język, antropologia publiczna.

Karolina Kuberska - University of Cambridge

antropolożka, doktor, pracuje w The Healthcare Improve- ment Studies Institute w University of Cambridge. Zainteresowania: etnografia Ameryki Łacińskiej, antropologia emocji i ciała, antropologia medyczna, pokre- wieństwo i nowe technologie reprodukcyjne, ciało i interwencje chirurgiczne.
