Publishing policy

  1. Texts for publication in the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal are accepted continuously. The Editorial Team does not set deadlines for sending manuscripts. Texts should be sent to the journal's e-mail address.
  2. No fees are charged from the authors for text submission, reviewing, editing, proofreading, electronic publication or for printing the hard copies obligatory for authorized libraries.
  3. Original papers, written in Polish, Russian or English, prepared in accordance with the principles of scholarly integrity are accepted.
  4. The "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal publishes articles in the field of linguistics, literary studies, cultural studies, history, philosophical, religious and socio-political thought, history of ideas and bibliography, which deal with Russia-related issues, including comparative approaches, as well as more general issues, provided the analyzed material and references are Russia-related. The journal is the only one in Poland to publish papers in the field of investigative philology.
  5. It is also possible to publish a translation of an outstanding Russia-related work as its first edition provided that the author's consent has been obtained. The translation should be accompanied by a scholarly description of the work.
  6. It is possible to publish an edition of a source text of significant importance for research development if the consent has been obtained from the author of the translated work or from an appropriate institution. This piece must be Russia-related.
  7. The following types of texts are accepted for publication in the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal (after a proper qualification procedure):

a/ research articles,

b/ reviews,

c/ literature reviews,

d/ case studies,

f/ review articles, overviews,

g/ polemics,

h/ annotated bibliographies,

i/ scientific reports,

j/ obituaries, reminiscences, memorials,

k/ (occasionally) previously unpublished scholarly, literary and epistolary translations of major importance for philological research,

l/ (occasionally) previously unpublished editions of source texts of significant importance for  research development,

  1. Materials such as collections of documents or lesson plans are not published.
  2. No promotional materials or advertisements are published.
  3. The Editorial Team may order jubilee texts, memoirs, obituaries and scholarly reports.
  4. The volume limits for texts intended for publication in the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal are as follows:

a/ research and review articles – up to 20,000 characters (including spaces),

b/ other texts – 10–15,000 characters (including spaces),

c/ longer works, but not exceeding one publishing sheet (40,000 characters with spaces), may be accepted only in consultation with the Editorial Team.

  1. The volume limits apply to a full text with footnotes and references, abstracts and keywords. If the indicated limit is exceeded, the editors will ask the author(s) to shorten the article. In individual cases, the editor-in-chief may agree to a publication of a longer text.
  2. If the author decides to withdraw a text from the journal, they should immediately inform the editors.
  3. In a case of co-authorship (multi-author texts), the person who sends the manuscript to the editor is assumed to be the corresponding author. The corresponding author is responsible for the contact between the editors and the other co-authors.
  4. Submitted texts which receive two positive reviews are accepted for publication. Texts submitted for evaluation are anonymous.
  5. Only texts matching the journal's profile and prepared in accordance with the editorial requirements are qualified for the review process.
  6. Submitting a text for review is tantamount to the author's declaration that:

a/ the text has not been simultaneously submitted to another journal and has not been previously published;

b/ the text is the author’s original;

c/ the author does not infringe the copyrights of third parties (including research and illustrative materials);

d/ the text does not omit information about people or institutions contributing to its creation and the presented research;

e/ the text does not omit information about the source of research funding by individuals, institutions, domestic and foreign organizations.

  1. In cases of co-authorship, each author's contribution should be indicated in a footnote.
  2. Revised versions of articles that have been previously submitted to "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" but rejected by reviewers and/or the editorial board should not be re-submitted.
  3. Plagiarism is understood as the use of another author’s research/text and/or data without proper acknowledgement i.e., presenting it as one's own. For details, see ethical recommendations.
  4. To counteract guest authorship practices, the editors require the authors of the submitted works to provide their affiliation (the name of the university and address) and to disclose and determine any contribution of other parties to the work (concept development, data collection, etc.). The person responsible for the veracity of the information provided is the author submitting the text.
  5. To counteract guest authorship practices, in the case of co-authorship of a work submitted for publication in the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal, a statement of each author’s (percentage) contribution to the publication is required.
  6. An article is accepted after receiving two positive opinions from independent reviewers and making the recommended improvements and additions. In the case of one negative review, a text is rejected. In the event of divergent opinions, the decision to accept, reject or appoint a third reviewer is made by the editorial team.   7. After receiving reviews, authors are obliged to respond to the Reviewers' comments in writing if the reviews contain polemical, critical or substantive remarks or indicate a need for additions. The Editorial Board decides, based on an analysis of the review, whether a response is necessary and informs the Authors by e-mail.
  8. The final decision to publish an article is made by the editorial team. If the author’s imoprovements after the reviews are considered insufficient, the article will not be published.
  9. The editorial team’s decision to accept or reject a submitted text is final. The author is informed about it by e-mail.

Publishing Ethics

The publisher and editors of the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal use the highest publication standards and follow the principles of publishing ethics counteracting unfair publishing practices. The journal has adopted the guidelines of Committee on Publication Ethics (www.publicationethics.org). The adopted publishing ethics rules apply to all works published by the University of Gdańsk.

 

Ethical principles

ETHICAL RULES FOR THE PUBLISHER AND THE EDITORIAL BOARD

  1. Controlling ethical standards

The publisher and editors of the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal are obliged to comply with the adopted principles of publishing ethics and publishing standards and to prevent practices inconsistent with current legal provisions regarding copyright, personal data protection, defamation, plagiarism, guest authorship and ghostwriting practices. 

  1. Fair treatment principle

Submitted works are evaluated only on the basis of their scholarly merit. Race, gender, religion, nationality, citizenship, political beliefs of the authors in no way affect editorial decisions.

  1. Publishing decisions – criteria for accepting works for publication

The publisher and editors of the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal decide which papers will be published based on reviewers’ opinions regarding the value, originality and transparency of the work.

  1. Confidentiality principle

The publisher and editors of the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal shall not disclose any information about the submitted papers to unauthorized persons. The publisher, editors, appointed reviewers, members of the Editorial Team and persons participating in the publishing process are authorized to view the submitted works.

  1. Conflicts of interest (prevention and disclosure)

Unpublished texts may not be used by any of the persons participating in the publishing process without the written consent of the authors.

  1. Verification and retraction of published articles

The publisher and editors of the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal have the right to retract the work both during the publication procedure and after its publication if:

a/ plagiarism or violation of other principles of publishing ethics have been revealed (self-plagiarism, ghostwriting, guest authorship), 

b/ evidence of unreliable research results, data falsification, serious unintentional errors (e.g. methodological, statistical) have been revealed.

 

 

ETHICAL PRINCIPLES FOR AUTHORS

  1. Scholarly integrity principle

The authors are obliged to reliably conduct, present and objectively interpret their research. The work should contain information that enables identification of data sources, and verification of the presented research problem. Unreliable or unethical presentation/interpretation of data and research results is unacceptable.

  1. Originality principle

The author declares that the submitted manuscript is their original work, that they have exclusive and unlimited economic and personal rights to the publication and that they do not infringe any personal or property rights of third parties. The author's statement about the originality of the work is an integral part of the publishing agreement.

  1. Multiplied, redundant or parallel publication avoidance principle

Submitting a manuscript to the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal is tantamount to a declaration that the submitted text has not been published before, is not an excerpt from another publication and that it has not been submitted elsewhere.

  1. Sources of financing

The author presents to the editors of "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" information about the sources of financing the submitted work, the contribution of scientific and research institutions, associations and other entities (financial disclosure).

  1. Authorship

When submitting co-authored manuscripts, individual authors’ contribution should be disclosed.

It is unacceptable to omit other authors’ contribution to the submitted work (ghostwriting).

It is unacceptable to indicate the participation of an author whose contribution is negligible or has not taken place (guest authorship).

All authors must approve the final version of the work and agree to its publication.

  1. Reliability of sources

All publications, research results or data used in developing the work must be footnoted and listed in the References.

  1. Rules for errors in already published papers

The author should immediately notify the editors about the detection of errors / inaccuracies in their publication. The editors will correct the errors in the electronic edition of the journal and take them into account in the paper edition or in the next edition / reprint, or publish an errata, annex or correction.

 

ETHICAL PRINCIPLES FOR REVIEWERS

Counteracting conflicts of interest

The reviewer should not undertake the evaluation of a paper in case of conflict of interest with the author(s) or the institutions involved in its development. Any conflict of interest should be reported to the publisher or the editorial board.

Timeliness

The reviewer is obliged to prepare the review within the set deadline. The reviewer should immediately inform the publisher or the appropriate editors of the journal about any delay or their resignation from reviewing.

Confidentiality

The reviewer is obliged to maintain confidentiality regarding the evaluation process, the content of the evaluated work and the assessment result. Disclosure of the reviewed text and its assessment result to unauthorized persons is unacceptable. The research results included in the paper submitted for publication may not be used by the reviewer in their own research until the article has come out.

Maintaining standards of objectivity

The review should be objective, reliable, impartial and properly justified. The reviewer evaluates: the content of the work, the originality and legitimacy of the research, as well as the theses, methodology and correctness of the formulated conclusions, the language, the style and method of preparing the footnotes and references. Non-substantive criticism of the author is unacceptable.

Reliability of sources

The reviewer should disclose all cases that indicate the suspicion of using other authors’ publications in the reviewed paper. Excerpts raising doubts should be clearly indicated. The reviewer should also indicate important publications related to the subject of the article not included by the author.

To prevent plagiarism, the publisher and editors of the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal  have decided to use the anti-plagiarism system Crossref Similarity Check.
