Tasks and competences of the Authorities

Editor-in-Chief

  • is responsible for the entirety of the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal (its shape and content);
  • manages all the activities of the editorial team;
  • makes strategic decisions concerning the journal;
  • makes decisions about the final form of the publications;
  • oversees reviewer selection;
  • cooperates with members of the editorial board;
  • cooperates with the publisher;
  • supervises the ethical standards and contents of the journal;
  • determines the order of the published works;
  • supervises the publication process;
  • cooperates with academic databases;
  • estimates the expenses related to the maintenance of the journal;
  • obtains additional funds for the development of the journal (submits grant applications under appropriate ministerial programs; searches for individual donors; cooperates with scientific societies in co-publishing selected volumes).

 

Deputy Editor-in-Chief

  • participates in building the publishing plan of the journal and its Internet presence actively;
  • supervises the development of the journal's website;
  • ensures the right level of the published content through proper selection of materials for publication;
  • plans topics and editing comprehensively;
  • cooperates with the authors;
  • supports the ongoing editorial work and the management of the editorial team;
  • cooperates with the publishing house;
  • cooperates with the journal's website editor;
  • participates in the process of obtaining additional funds for the development of the journal;
  • cooperates with scientific societies in co-publishing selected volumes.

Editorial Team

  • makes joint decisions about the content of the journal;
  • makes general recommendations for authors;
  • prepares requirements for publications;
  • participates in making decisions about rejecting articles;
  • takes action in case research ethics violation suspicion arises;
  • participates in making decisions to notify the institution whose affiliation the author or reviewer has indicated about a scientific misconduct suspicion.

 

Assistant Editor

  • deals with secretarial issues of the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal;
  • deals with current correspondence concerning the journal;
  • keeps a register of the submitted articles, archives them, creates electronic backup, and stores documents according to the established order;
  • sends information to the authors about the decision to accept or reject an article made by the editorial board;
  • sends the electronic edition of the current issue of the journal to the authors, reviewers, and members of the editorial board, and sends hard copies to the authors;
  • provides the mandatory copies to the authorized libraries; sends copies of publications to other selected libraries.
  • prepares letters, announcements, texts popularizing the journal in domestic and foreign scholarly communities.

 

Deputy Assistant Editor

  • cooperates with the assistant editor and supports their work;
  • maintains email correspondence;
  • supervises electronic submissions;
  • performs assistant editor’s duties in their absence.

 

Content Editor

  • divides the articles according to the field and topic;
  • preliminarily assesses the submitted texts regarding their content and language;
  • oversees content coherence, including the same notation of symbols and an unambiguous assignment of definitions to concepts in the journal;
  • consults reviewer selection with the editors, considering the content of the article and the methodology adopted by the author(s);
  • prepares a preliminary list of reviewers for the editor-in-chief;
  • cooperates with reviewers and coordinates their activities;
  • cooperates with the editor-in-chief on: a/ making decisions on further proceeding or rejection of a submitted text; b/ selection of the editor(s) of the current volume;
  • provides an opinion on the article to the editorial board;
  • approves the texts for publication and presents them to the editor-in-chief;
  • cooperates with the issue editors regarding linguistic and content matters. 

 

Issue Editor

  • analyzes the received texts and opinions prepared by thematic editors;
  • cooperates with the editorial team to prepare a list of reviewers;
  • contacts candidates for reviewers and obtains their consent to prepare reviews;
  • sends texts for review (usually to two reviewers) and maintains correspondence with the reviewers;
  • reads the obtained reviews;
  • analyzes the compatibility of reviews and the reviewed articles;
  • sends the received reviews to the authors;
  • based on the received reviews, decides whether to send the article back to the author for corrections, or to reject it;
  • checks whether the authors have included the reviewers’ comments and suggestions in their manuscripts;
  • checks the compliance of the text with the editorial requirements;
  • contacts the authors, if necessary;
  • consults content- and language-related matters with the thematic and language editors;
  • performs technical editing before publication;
  • after text editing and typesetting, sends the texts to their authors for proofreading;
  • verifies the execution of the corrections;
  • submits the final version of the texts for publication.

 

Language Editor

  • supervises the linguistic correctness of the texts accepted for publication;
  • proofreads the texts accepted for publication;
  • cooperates with volume and thematic editors regarding language issues.

 

Statistical Editor

  • follows information about the journal in impact and citation calculation tools and reports it to the editor-in-chief and the editorial board;
  • submits volumes of the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal to national and international academic databases cooperating with the journal and deposits publication metadata in reference databases.

Website Editor / Webleader

  • creates, maintains and updates the website of the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal;
  • is responsible for the journal’s website and its attractive design;
  • coordinates manuscript and review submissions via the electronic system available on the journal's platform;
  • oversees the social media site of the journal;
  • cooperates with specialists responsible for maintaining the journal's platform, the UG Library and the UG Journal Department.

 

Associate Editor

  • cooperates with the editors on a particular volume of the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal (and makes a specific contribution);
  • submits journal publications to academic databases and electronic libraries;
  • promotes the journal in Poland and abroad.

 

Editorial Board

  • determines the profile of the "Studia Rossica Gedanensia" journal;
  • establishes the interdisciplinarity framework within the humanities;
  • provides scientific consultations on demand and resolving doubts regarding a given research issue;
  • oversees adherence to research ethics;
  • informs the editor-in-chief about scientific misconduct;
  • cares for the journal’s good image and recognition in Poland and abroad.

 

Printing Department of the University of Gdańsk Press

  • deals with typesetting and text makeup for the journal;
  • provides technical support for the publishing and print of "Studia Rossica Gedanensia".
