Abstract

The article presents the folk etymologies of names of cities and towns, which are founded on statements connected with religious problems. In article are discussed the following names: Puck, Siewierz, Wizna, Warszawa, Grajewo, Białaszewo, Komosewo, Sulewo, Łosewo, Bożejewo, Niepruszewo, Dopijewo, Konaszewo, Karasiewo, Radziejów, Kroczewo, Złotopolce, Niepiekła, Domaniewice, Świniogóra, Dobranowice and Staniątki. The author juxtaposes all the folk etymologies of these names and compares them structurally and semantically with their scientific etymologies.
