Abstract

The paper contains a previously untranslated extract from the first chapter of the book “The humiliated Christ in modern Russian thought” by the writer and theologian, Nadezhda Danilovna Gorodetskaya. At the beginning of her literary and philosophical review of Russian culture and history, Gorodetskaya turned to the work of the Slavophiles and Westerners, finding in their worldview meekness, humility, sacrifice and other features of the “kenotic” virtues and ideals, so characteristic, in her opinion, of the whole Russian world.
